Movicol works by rehydrating the stool, restoring comfortable bowel movements for adults and children aged 12 years and over.

Warnings

Do not take MOVICOL Lemon-Lime if your doctor has told you that you have:
• an obstruction in your intestine (gut)
• a perforated gut wall
• severe inflammatory bowel disease, like ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or toxic megacolon
• paralysis of the bowel
• an allergy to macrogol or any of the ingredients.

Movicol Lemon-Lime is for use in adults and children aged 12 years and over. The Movicol Junior range is available for children between 2 and 11 years of age.

Caution

• The fluid content of Movicol when re-constituted with water does not replace regular fluid intake and adequate fluid intake must be maintained.
• Laxative products such as Movicol have the potential to interact with other medications, by altering their absorption.
• Close monitoring of the effects of the medications may be necessary when patient starts or stops taking Movicol regularly.
• It is important that the patient should discuss this with the doctor.
   

• If the patient is pregnant talk to the doctor before taking Movicol.
• If the patient needs to thicken fluids in order to swallow them safely, Movicol may counteract the effect of the thickener.

• Potassium Chloride 46.6 mg
• ON RECONSTITUTION IN 125 mL OF WATER, EACH SACHET PROVIDES
• Sodium 65 mmol/L
• Chloride 53 mmol/L
• Bicarbonate 17 mmol/L
• Potassium 5.4 mmol/L

Also contains potassium acesulfame and lemon-lime flavour.

How it works

Movicol contains macrogol 3350 and electrolytes, macrogol is a PEG, a high molecular weight polymer that is non-toxic, pharmacologically inert, and virtually unabsorbed. Macrogol attracts and holds water in the bowel, softening the stool while the electrolytes in Movicol help prevent the possibility of electrolyte imbalance and dehydration. The process eventually leads to a natural bowel movement.

Dosage

DOSAGE IN ADULTS AND CHILDREN OVER 12 YEARS OF AGE

• Constipation: 1 sachet daily, increasing to 2 or 3 sachets daily if necessary.
• Faecal impaction as diagnosed by a doctor: 8 sachets a day for a maximum of 3 days.
   

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

• Dissolve the contents of one sachet in 125 mL of water then drink it. Do not exceed the stated dose.
• Not recommended for children less than 12 years of age. For children less than 12 years use MOVICOL® Junior.

• Drink plenty of water. Increase fibre in diet except in cases of medication-induced constipation.
• Prolonged use of laxatives is undesirable and may lead to dependence. If symptoms persist seek medical advice.
• Use only if carton seals are unbroken.
